2004 ISTE Leadership Symposium at NECC
More than 175 leaders met at the 2004 ISTE Leadership Symposium, eager to "learn from the wisdom in the room," and inspired to have their day's efforts move forward a shared commitment to educational technology advocacy. Participants included representatives from the U.S. Department of Education, leaders of not-for-profit associations, state level leaders, foundation executives and corporate leaders, and school district and regional education leaders who stand apart from their peers through their broad-impact leadership. Various speakers set the stage for the work ahead (view the Leadership Symposium presentation, PDF, 276 KB, PDF instructions), and Anita Givens of the Texas Education Association showed how a shared vision and new approach to advocacy for educational technology had a positive effect in her state (see Making the Case for Making the Case, PDF, 895 KB, PDF instructions, Copyright © 2004, Anita Givens, Texas Educational Association. Then it was on to the work of the day: Participants convened in "audience" groups to discuss the many aspects of advocacy, and to create the templates and tools you will find in the Advocacy Toolkit.
