Mobile Learning SIG (formerly the Handheld Computing SIG)
SIGML is the interest group that is an advocate for mobile learning worldwide, and promotes meaningful integration of mobile devices in teaching and learning in formal and informal learning environments. Members of SIGML include teachers, administrators, technology coordinators, university faculty and researchers, and representatives from profit and non-profit entities, including government. The goal of the SIG is to foster a community of stakeholders in order to support the use of mobile learning and promote best practices in the area of mobile and wireless computing integration in education.

Goals and Objectives
SIGML's activities are specifically aimed at:
- Support for mobile device integration in different types of learning environments. Support includes access to SIG members via synchronous and asynchronous communication channels, and access to expertise and professional development in the area of mobile learning integration in education;
- Dissemination of best practices and best practices research in the area of mobile learning and computing;
- Creation of effective research tools and methodologies;
- Examination of issues related to mobile technology integration including (but not limited to) equity, the digital divide, acceptable use, safety, Special Needs students, and English-as-a-Second-Language user issues;
- Provide recommendations for the development of appropriate mobile learning tools (hardware and software and related curriculum for teaching and learning)
SIGML Professional Development Opportunities
Podcast Picks, (presented by Tony Vincent on September 30, 2009, 3PM Pacific/6PM Eastern).
So many podcasts, so little time! With tens of thousands of podcasts and millions of episodes it can be hard to find the very best ones for teaching and learning. Tony Vincent shares some of his favorite podcasts on Wednesday, September 30th at on Ustream.tv. Tony will present his podcast picks for teachers and students for part of the hour. The other part of the hour is reserved for participants to share their own picks and to ask questions. You can participate by calling in your picks via Skype.
