Webcast on International ICT Literacy Standards

ISTE CEO, Don Knezek, was a featured speaker in a live Webcast Tuesday, December 2, 2003, with David Saedi, CEO of Certiport. Both CEOs discussed the importance of global collaboration and international ICT Literacy standards. Don presented ISTE's perspective on key issues related to ICT literacy. T.H.E. Journal and ISTE Create New Award Honoring Dr. Sylvia Charp

T.H.E. Journal and ISTE have announced the creation of the Sylvia Charp Award for District Innovation in Technology, a joint annual awards program to be presented annually at NECC. The award honors Dr. Sylvia Charp, a lifelong supporter of ISTE and Founding Editor-in-Chief of T.H.E. Journal. In the first year of the award, T.H.E. Journal and ISTE will identify and recognize one U.S. school district that exhibits effectiveness and innovation in the application of technology district-wide. In future years, selections will be made from applicants in three categories based on district size.

ISTE Providing Professional Development to HP Grantees

ISTE 100 member HP announced last month a $10 million grant initiative aimed at K–16 schools in the U.S. ISTE is partnering with HP to deliver professional development services to K–12 schools participating in this grant initiative. The K–12 school award for the HP Technology for Teaching grant will consist of cash, equipment, and professional development valued at approximately $35,000 for each participating school. To apply, a team of 5 teachers from a school must propose a project to integrate the use of technology in their teaching in a way that aligns with the school’s goals for bringing technology into the classroom. The award package for each teacher at selected schools will include an HP Tablet PC, an HP multimedia projector, customized professional development, and a $500 stipend.
