Last night, the United States Senate went into overtime to score a big victory for the E-Rate program, which provides deeply discounted Internet access for schools and libraries nationwide. Rather than adjourning for the year after passing major intelligence reform legislation, the Senate remained in session late last night to negotiate and, ultimately, pass legislation that will ensure that desperately needed E-Rate discounts, many of which have been on hold since early August, reach schools and libraries expeditiously.

ISTE 100 member HP has launched its 2005 Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative which will award grants totaling $5 million in cash and equipment over two years to K–16 schools in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. ISTE is partnering with HP to deliver professional development services to K–12 schools participating in this grant.
