ISTE has awarded scholarships of computer hardware and software to five
middle and high school students through the Jolaines Joy Scholarship Fund.
The fund was established in memory of Jolaine Harbour, an educational technology
professional, who died in August 2004. At the request of Jolaine Harbour and
her family, ISTE awarded five deserving students $1,000 in computer hardware
and software.

Deputy CEO Leslie Conery recently attended a meeting of the National Center for Women & Information Technology. NCWIT's mission is ensuring that women are fully represented in the powerful world of information technology and computing. Conery met with leaders of NCWIT and other groups to discuss forming a K12 alliance.

HP is partnering with ISTE to provide
professional development for teams participating in the HP Technology for Teaching
grant program. Participants will work in an online environment to improve their
skills and knowledge about effective technology integration in teaching and
learning and align their work with the National Educational Technology Standards
(NETS) as they implement their projects.

Thank you to members and supporters who sent more than 7,000 emails to Congress this past week opposing major cuts to education technology. Your voices were heard and your efforts rewarded! On Thursday, the U.S. House rejected the Education Appropriations bill, which would have slashed funding by 45% for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) program.

is donating scholarships to several of its member affiliates
in Gulf Coast states hardest hit by recent hurricanes, beginning with Louisiana
and Mississippi. These scholarships will fund one or more teachers from the
disaster areas in these states to attend their Affiliate conference.

in expressing our deepest concern for the thousands who are suffering the devastating
impact of Hurricane Katrina. We encourage all our members and friends to help
provide for the basic and immediate needs of survivors. In the meantime, ISTE and its
