Now Accepting Nominations for ISTE Awards

ISTE is now accepting nominations for the Outstanding Teacher and Leader Awards and the Sylvia Charp Award for innovative school districts. Nominations for the Teacher and Leader Awards must come from an ISTE affiliate organization; any individual member can nominate a school district for the Sylvia Charp Award.

Grant Program for U.S. Schools of Distinction; Deadline 2-17-09

ISTE 100 member, Intel, is now taking applications for its yearly Schools of Distinction Award. Schools in the United States have an opportunity to win a $10,000 cash grant along with hardware, software, and curriculum materials by demonstrating "their extraordinary commitment to educational excellence based on their innovative programs in math and science." ISTE is an affiliate sponsor of this grant program.

ISTE Leadership Meets with Obama Transition Team

ISTE CEO Don Knezek, along with board president Trina Davis and director of government affairs Hilary Goldmann, met December 4th with key members of President-Elect Obama's transition team to discuss education policy. "We had a great conversation about modernizing education," said Knezek, "and we're pleased at the positive response to our ideas." Davis noted that ISTE representatives "discussed the need for resources focused on research and development for innovation in teaching and learning" with members of the transition team, and added that "we look forward to the opportunity to work with the new administration in the months ahead."
