When NSTA and ISTE Collaborate, students win!
ISTE, in collaboration with NSTA, hosted a technology strand at the 2007 National Science Teachers Association Conference in St. Louis, Missouri between March 29th–April 1, 2007. The strand was titled, Technology: Research and Practical Applications. ISTE was represented by ISTE’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, Mila M. Fuller, and the following ISTE members: Laura Blasi (University of Central Florida), Theresa Martinez Schroeder (NASA), Ben Smith (Red Lion Area School District, Red Lion, PA), and Jared Mader (Red Lion Area School District, Red Lion, PA). For more information on the ISTE strand at NSTA please contact headquarters@iste.org.
For Teachers, by Teachers: The Cogs Website and NASA’s Virtual Lab
Participants will work with NASA’s Virtual Lab software through simulations using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and other scientific instruments. We will explore the current features of the Virtual Lab and other interactive features for middle and high school science students that support the ISTE National Education Technology Standards (NETS). Attendees will leave with complimentary copies of The Virtual Lab program.
For Teachers, by Teachers: NASA Brings a Standards-based Shuttle Launch Countdown (KLASS) to Your Math and Science Classrooms
Participants will be able to work with NASA’s Kennedy Launch Academy Simulation Software (KLASS) curriculum content. With the operating system based on actual NASA shuttle test software, this program allows the students control over a simulated launch countdown. We’ll explore the features of this interactive tool, and attendees will examine lesson plan materials that show direct application to math, science, and the NETS for students. Although targeted for middle school, this tool is easily adapted to all grade levels. The free software and content is available online.
Digitizing the Science Classroom—Prepare Students for the Global Society
This session will show you how to bring your classroom into the 21st century by putting the curriculum in your student’s hands. Students already have technology toys—come see how to put them to use in the classroom!
