ISTE Announces Winners of 2009 SIG Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) has named the winners of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award.

Sponsored by ISTE's SIG for Media Specialists, Linworth Publishing Inc. and Follett Software Company, the Specialist Technology Innovation Award recognizes collaborative technology innovation projects created by elementary, middle, and high school teachers and media specialists. The award will be presented at the National Education Computing Conference, to be held June 28 to July 1, 2009, in Washington, D.C.

The SIG Media Specialist Technology Innovation Award winners have been selected from a field of exceptional submissions. Awardees will receive a one-year membership to ISTE, a $1,000 cash award payable to their school’s media center, a $500 travel stipend to attend NECC, a $1,000 professional library from Linworth Publishing and a one-year subscription to Library Media Connection magazine for each team member. Additionally, Library Media Connection and Learning and Leading with Technology magazines will publish articles highlighting the winners. The winners are:

*  First place in the elementary school award category: Karen Kliegman and Noel Forte, Searingtown Elementary School, Albertson, N.Y., United States, for Meet the Candidates

*  Honorable Mention: Fanny Finch Elementary, McKinney, Tex., United States
 
*  First place in the middle school award category: Lindsay Cesari and Patrick Donahue, Durgee Junior High School, Baldwinsville, N.Y., United States, for Element Commercials

*  Honorable Mention: Algebra Podcast, Westlane Middle School, Indianapolis, Ind., United States

*  First place in the high school award category: Belinda O'Brien, Susan Casement and Cindy Rubenstein, Minerva DeLand School, Fairport, N.Y., United States, for People who Changed the World

* Honorable Mention: Graphic Novel, Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Highlands, N.J., United States.
