			<description>The US Department of Education released grant applications and criteria for its Investing in Innovation (i3) program this week. Local districts and nonprofit organizations are invited to apply for nearly $650m in competitive grants focused on scaling up, validating, and developing innovative programs. Applications are due in mid-May of this year, with funds to be awarded in September.</description>

In a statement released by the four organizations ISTE CEO Don Knezek said, &quot;We're encouraged by the shared vision for American schools that are more relevant, engaging, and globally competitive. And we'll continue our work with the Administration and Congress to restore adequate federal funding for education technology programs.&quot;</description>

According to the report, an &quot;overwhelming majority of Americans (92%) use multiple platforms on a typical day&quot; including broadcast, print and online sources. Thirty-seven percent of internet users in the study &quot;contributed to the creation of news&quot; through comments, tagging, writing posts, linking, etc, slightly more than the 33% of cell phone users who accessed news from their mobile phone.</description>
