ISTE Public Policy Advocate of the Year

This award will be presented at NECC 2009 recognizing an individual who is an outstanding leader and mentor in advocating for education technology policy at the local, state, regional, national and/or international level. Nomination submissions begin on January 15, 2009 and continue through March 15, 2009.

The person selected to receive this award will be:

• Honored at ISTE’s  2009 National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in Washington, D.C. June 28-July 1, 2009.
• Receive up to $1000 toward travel to NECC
• A plaque
• A complimentary NECC registration
• One year Standard ISTE membership

Nomination Materials:

1. A 400 dpi photo is required of the nominee. 
2. Required nomination materials are complete and submitted by March 15, 2009 by 5:00 PM PST. 
3. The nomination submission will contain:   
     a. Nomination letter highlighting the qualifications for the outstanding public policy advocate.
     b. One page list detailing public policy advocacy activities.)
     c. Two letters of recommendation that support the nominee as an outstanding public policy advocate.
     d. A signed model release form
     e. An application form with contact information

Selection Criteria:

1. Required nomination materials are complete and submitted by deadline.
2. The nominee is actively involved in educational technology and professional organizations.
3. The nominee’s work can be used as a model.
4. The nominee has worked to expand public policy advocacy efforts for educational technology by involving others in the process.
5. The nominee has increased awareness about educational technology public policy advocacy by networking with other professional organizations.
6. The nominee has worked to build awareness of public policy that impacts educational technology issues and funding.
7. The nominee works with the media to inform the public about educational technology issues and important public policy.
8. The nominee has demonstrated a strong commitment to increasing visibility and awareness of the importance of educational technology issues and funding.
9. The nominee’s work reflects the mission and purpose of ISTE.
10. The nominee will represent ISTE well in all forums.
