Who We Are
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a
nonprofit,
professional membership society serving educational technology leaders
and potential
leaders in preservice education and PK12 classrooms; in school,
district,
state, national, and international positions; in schools of education;
and in
corporate settings.
Our mission is to promote appropriate uses of information technology
to support
and improve learning, teaching, and administration in PK12
education and
teacher education.
ISTE supports its mission and its members through:
Leadership-providing national and international leadership in
advocating
for the effective use of appropriate technologies in education.
Standards-writing and creating consensus among stakeholders on
what
students, teachers, and administrators need to know and be able to do
with technology.
ISTE led the NETS project and is a leader the TSSA consortium.
Alliances-developing and maintaining affiliate relationships
with state,
regional, and international grassroots organizations representing more
than
75,000 teachers and administrators as well as corporations aligned
with our
mission.
Professional Development-hosting invitational symposia;
co-chairing
the National Educational Computing Conference program committee and
producing
all NECC workshops; and supporting the efforts of Special Interest
Groups (SIGs)
and other member communities.
Research-helping leaders make decisions based on best
practices and
significant research. ISTE evaluation services focus on ongoing
evolutions appropriate
to actual results useful in the field.
Publications and Resources-keeping members informed of best
practices
by publishing key periodicals and numerous books ranging from theory
