Learn More About ISTE

Who We Are

The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a nonprofit, professional membership society serving educational technology leaders and potential leaders in preservice education and PK–12 classrooms; in school, district, state, national, and international positions; in schools of education; and in corporate settings.

Our mission is to promote appropriate uses of information technology to support and improve learning, teaching, and administration in PK–12 education and teacher education.

ISTE supports its mission and its members through:

Leadership-providing national and international leadership in advocating for the effective use of appropriate technologies in education.

Standards-writing and creating consensus among stakeholders on what students, teachers, and administrators need to know and be able to do with technology. ISTE led the NETS project and is a leader the TSSA consortium.

Alliances-developing and maintaining affiliate relationships with state, regional, and international grassroots organizations representing more than 75,000 teachers and administrators as well as corporations aligned with our mission.

Professional Development-hosting invitational symposia; co-chairing the National Educational Computing Conference program committee and producing all NECC workshops; and supporting the efforts of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and other member communities.

Research-helping leaders make decisions based on best practices and significant research. ISTE evaluation services focus on ongoing evolutions appropriate to actual results useful in the field.

Publications and Resources-keeping members informed of best practices by publishing key periodicals and numerous books ranging from theory to “How To.”
