“ETAN In A Box”

ETAN is the Ed Tech Action Network. Its mission is to influence public policy-makers at the federal, state, and local levels and to increase public investment in the competitiveness of America's classrooms and students. ETAN in a Box allows conference attendees to send a letter to U.S. congress with a click of a button. A lot of Affiliates are participating, including: AK, AL, AZ, NY, NH, LA, TX, VA, AL, MI, CA, WI, and WI.

Here’s how it works: 1) Talk to Hilary Goldmann and she’ll provide web buttons for your Web site, update the front page of the ETAN site with people from your Affiliate, send you signs, and train your volunteers through an interactive web-based training session. 2) Set aside a booth at your conference. 3) Arrange for volunteers to man the booth, then get them trained. 3) Get a few computers and internet access ready and set up in the booth. 4) Get creative and publicize it with giveaways, buttons, announcements, or whatever works.  One great example was Alaska (ASTE).  They really built it up, advertised it a lot, got students involved, and even raffled an iPod for those who stopped by the booth.

On the Affiliate wiki, you’ll find plenty of resources, including a flyer about ETAN, how to effectively host an ETAN booth, and helpful hints from ASTE .

More Conference Resources

Be sure to visit the Affiliate wiki often – and add to it!  This is your place to ask questions, and share resources with each other.  Right now there are a few issues being discussed regarding  possible speakers/presenters, and how to manage exhibitors’ badges.  Some of these discussions may be a summary of the listserve, but don’t limit it to that.

Please add your ideas too!
