How to Reorganize and live to tell about it
How do you go about tackling “but that’s the way we’ve always done it” when you know it’s really time to change? Learn from leaders at the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA), our Wisconsin Affiliate, about how they did it using good communication, facilitators, patience, and proceeding with the right steps in order.
The result? Many changes were made in the organizational structure of the association, including a name change, revised bylaws, board reconfiguration that included changes in board terms, provisions for special interest groups, a redesigned Web site, and the possibility of more diversified professional development opportunities to meet the needs of expanded membership.
Thanks to Annette Smith, president, and Kathy Sanders, ISTE Affiliate rep, who contributed this article. They admit, “The process took time and compromise. Who knew that a new name could be such an emotional process? After many hours from a host of committed individuals our association has grown into a stronger organization that is becoming more inclusive of educators in Wisconsin and works to promote student achievement through strong technology and information fluency programs.”
