SETSIG Activities

SETSIG members work individually as well as collaboratively to conduct activities on behalf of SETSIG. The following are some examples of the ways members further the SETSIG mission:

  • Collaborate to create and maintain the SETSIG Wiki (http://setsig.iste.wikispaces.net) to provide assistive technology resources for individuals new to the field as well as seasoned practitioners and/or advocates. The SETSIG Wiki is viewable by the public while also allowing SETSIG members to post and share resources.

  • Sponsor the Assistive Technology Playground, “AT for IT – Technology Playground for All.” annually at NECC. This is an opportunity for educators to explore hands-on demonstrations of powerful tools to support students in reading, writing, and math representing everyday technologies as well as specialized tools that can benefit all learners. NECC 2007’s AT playground information may be accessed here.

  • SETSIG collaborated with Special Education Technology Practice (SETP) (http://www.setp.net/) to produce a special edition of SETP for SETSIG's Assistive Technolgy Playground at NECC 2007. It has valuable resources you can't miss—check it out at http://setsig.iste.wikispaces.net/space/showimage/SETSIGNECC07.pdf

  • Review proposals submissions annually for NECC presentations that are related to Assistive Technology.

  • Conduct SETSIG sponsored Assistive Technology related presentations annually at NECC.

  • Submit articles on behalf of SETSIG, related to Assistive Technology in publications such as ISTE’s Learning and Leading with Technology, Special Education Technology Practice (http://www.setp.net) and SET Matters.
