J. Philip East
University of Northern Iowa

Good day to you. Here we have issue two of JCSE Online for 2004-05.

Instead of waiting for more articles to be ready, I am sharing with you the one that is ready. We hope to have some more in the near future.

There are a number of object-oriented programming languages or environments for us to choose from. A relative recent addition to that collection is Jeroo. Dean Sanders and Erica Eddy provide us an overview of the system and language as well as motivation for its use. If you have not heard of Jeroo, I suspect you will find this article quite informative. If you have heard of it, you may decide to give it another or a closer look. Since the system is free, you might want to spend some time with it this summer or have some of your more independent and interested students explore it in their free time.

By the way, the Sanders and Eddy article is a slightly revised version of a paper that was presented at the Midwest Instruction and Computing Symposium (MICS). If you encounter other articles that may have somewhat restricted audiences (e.g., the upper Midwest or Northeast US) that you think worth sharing with SIGCS readers, let me know. Perhaps we can reprint them. You can reach me via east@cs.uni.edu.

I want to take this opportunity to remind you of the CS & IT Symposium that will be held in conjunction with NECC in Philadelphia. If you plan on attending NECC consider coming a day or two early for the Symposium. Of course, I guess it is okay to attend the Symposium and skip NECC if money is tight.

We hope to have another issue in the near future. I expect Joe Kmoch will be reporting on the results of the member survey.

Thank you. Have a good day.
