Notes from the Editor…

John Thompson

Hello. As Joe Kmoch notes in his President’s Message, the publication of the ISTE’s Special Interest Group for Computing Teachers (SIGCT) has changed its name…and more. The name for our publication was formerly the Journal for Computer Science Education. Starting with this issue, our new title is the Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT), which is more indicative of the scope of SIGCT and JCT. Besides the name change, the past practice of posting papers as they became available has been replaced with several issues a year containing multiple papers and other materials of interest about computing in K–12 education. A third change is that JCT will be available to everyone. Previously you had to be an ISTE member in order to access our publication. We have worked with the ISTE staff to have our publication available to the public at large so now everyone has direct access to JCT. This change should dramatically increase the size of our readership.

We also have revised our Guidelines for Publication. However, the submission process is pretty much the same as before. We accept, and even encourage, unsolicited papers and other materials for possible inclusion in JCT. E-mail your paper or material to me, indicating if you want an editor (me) review or a peer review. I will acknowledge your submission and let you know as soon as possible if it is suitable for JCT’s readership and in accordance with the editorial policy and goals of the journal. If it is and you want an editor review, as editor, I will review it and send you my comments and any revision suggestions. If you need your paper peer reviewed, then we will use a double-blind review process. The paper (without any identifying information about the author) will be sent out to at least two members of our Editorial Review Board for an external review. The authors will not know the reviewers and vice versa. The reviewers will examine your paper and send me their comments and any suggested revisions. Once I have heard back from all the reviewers, I will pass along the reviews to you. The remaining details about the review process are found in the Guidelines for Publication. During any part of this process, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me (thompsjt@buffalostate.edu, 716.860.0341 cellphone).

Speaking of the Editorial Review Board, we are seeking individuals to serve on the Board. If you are interested and/or desire additional information, please contact me for details. Reviewers typically review 3-4 papers a year.

We hope that you enjoy the Journal for Computing Teachers and find it worthwhile for your needs. Please let us know if you have suggestions or comments. We will publish those, too, if you approve.
