If you belong to ISTE, membership in SIGTE is free.
But to join in our efforts, you will need to officially sign up.

Please refer to our SIGTE wiki for the most current and comprehensive information about our work.

Mission

The mission of SIGTE is to:

  • Collect and disseminate information through publications and electronic communication networks.
  • Organize and sponsor all or part of meetings, workshops, and conference sessions.
  • Organize working groups for research, study and writing activities to meet the needs of its membership.
  • Recommend policy and standards for technology-related teacher education.
  • Serve as the teacher educators' arm of ISTE and work with other ISTE Special Interest Groups and other technology in teacher education organizations.

2009 Goals

  • Provide leadership and support for the 21st Century Assessment Initiative
  • Participate in the National Technology Leadership Summit
  • Increase SIGTE advocacy efforts in concert with ISTE's increased efforts in this area
  • Complete a full slate of professional development activities (2 webinars, one online book study) during the academic year

Opportunities to Connect

SIGTE provides an avenue for members to use collective efforts to support the professional development needs of teacher educators through these avenues:

  • The Journal of Computing in Teacher Education is published quarterly and contains refereed articles on preservice and inservice training, research in computer education issues and technology integration standards, and reviews of training materials and texts. Another dimension to the journal, the JCTE Author Perspectives podcasts, highlights expert perspectives of the authors and practical suggestions.
  • Each year SIGTE selects a paper submitted to NECC for its annual Research Paper Award
  • The SIGTE Wiki provides an avenue dissemination of SIGTE-relevant news, and a place for members to share current and relevant information.
  • We have an announcement listserve to which all members are automatically added.
  • Our discussion listserv is only available to SIGTE members who have requested participation. To participate in the discussion listserv, subscribe via your List Manager (require login).
  • SIGTE offers professional development opportunities such as virtual booktalks and webinars, a hands-on workshops and an expert forum each year at NECC
