Project Summary

Pics4Learning is designed to give educators and students digital image resources free of charge for educational use. Need a picture for a project? Check out Pics4Learning. This is a website that was started totally because kids and teachers need pictures for projects and classroom explanations. No alternative motive. Just sharing. Netscape nominated the original website for a Computer World Smithsonian award that was received in 1997. Since that time a corporate sponsor hosts the site on their server and maintains the project with help from educators around the country. Pics4Learning solves many copyright problems for teachers through their usage policy. Individuals like you and I can upload images to the collection. When we do we are giving permission for teachers and students to use the images. The person who owns the image still maintains the copyright. The current collection contains over 11,000 images and the quality just keeps getting better everyday. Recently several professional photographers have been making contributions to the collection. It is very exciting to see professional photographers willing to share their livelihood with students and teachers. Pics4Learning is a great way to get teachers to begin using technology in the classroom. Low stress, low risk and lots of directions. To help educators see the value in the picture collection and discover ways to use it with students a series of lesson plans have been provided, once again free. All the lesson plans were written by teachers and use the pictures from the Pics4Learning collection. Just about all the resources you need to replicate the lessons are on hand by just visiting the website. Current lesson categories include math, science, language arts and social studies. If a teacher has a lesson they would like to submit they can do so and get a free copy of the image editing software ImageBlender for their efforts.
