Webinar Series Presents New Membership Benefit

Continuing ISTE’s commitment to year-round professional development, in late fall the organization will roll out its newest member benefit, a SIG-focused webinar series, offering specific and targeted content for educators.  In collaboration with the ISTE Books Department, the series will showcase presentations by popular authors, beginning with Bard Williams, an expert in handheld computing and podcasting, and author of Handheld Computers and Smartphones in Secondary Schools: A Guide to Hands-on Learning and We’re Getting Wired, We’re Going Mobile, What’s Next? Fresh Ideas for Educational Technology Planning.

Each presentation will be geared towards 1-2 SIGs, whose members can take advantage of a special registration block before the beginning of the open registration period, though the series is sure to be popular among ISTE’s general membership.

ISTE plans six webinars over the next nine months. Watch for more announcements in the coming weeks.

SIGCS Broadens Its Focus and Changes Name to SIGCT, "Computing Teachers"

The members of the SIG formerly known as SIGCS (Computer Science) are energized by the group’s recent change in name and scope, an acknowledgement of the ubiquitous and changing landscape of technology education. The new SIGCT (Computing Teachers) will maintain an open door policy for PK-12 instructors in math, business, and other disciplines, who may not self-identify as computer science teachers.  The rebranding mirrors a shift in the expanded role of technology across disciplines, and more accurately reflects the incorporation of computers into virtually every school subject in today’s’ wired (and wireless!) classrooms.

SIGCT will allow ISTE members who teach problem-solving with computers to align themselves with a singular voice and mission, and will encourage the vital networking of education professionals with distinct specialties.  For more information, please visit the SIGCT Web page: http://www.iste.org/sigct/.
