National Standards for Technology in Teacher Preparation

Preparing effective technology facilitators and leaders is an increasingly important mission for colleges of education around the country. To meet the growing need for highly qualified educational technologists, ISTE has worked with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) to develop a set of performance assessment standards for initial and advanced endorsements in the areas of Technology Facilitation and Technology Leadership. Education programs looking to offer these endorsements must first be accredited by ISTE and NCATE. NCATE is the official body for accrediting teacher preparation programs. ISTE is the professional education organization responsible for recommending guidelines for accreditation to NCATE for programs in educational computing and technology teacher preparation.
