Implementing the Refreshed NETS•S

ISTE developed this free online course to help school administrators, peer coaches, professional development providers, and other education leaders enhance their skills in identifying and supporting effective use of technology as a tool for teaching and learning. This self-paced course can be completed at your convenience from school, the office, even at home.

The module covers two topics: the refreshed National Education Technology Standards for Students, and the Essential Conditions for implementing these standards. You will have opportunities to view examples of the NETSS in action and think about ways to incorporate these standards into your own lesson plans. At the end of this module, you will create a lesson plan that incorporates the refreshed NETSS, and have access to lesson plans created by others as part of this course. This self-paced module can be completed at your convenience.

Assessment and Technology Training

The Assessment & Technology Training is a one-day event that benefits teachers, teacher educators, and school and district instructional leaders (Principals, Assistant Principals, District Technology Directors/Coordinators, School Technology Specialists, School Curriculum Specialists).

In this one–day event, participants will:

  • Learn about using both traditional and alternative assessment to provide authentic evidence of student learning and teacher integration of technology, within the current emphasis on scientifically–based research.
  • Gain a better understanding of the diverse tools and strategies (i.e., e–portfolios, performance assessments, surveys and classroom observation instruments) that produce evidence of learning to support the culture of evidence required by both NCATE and NCLB.
  • Review and receive a copy of one of ISTE's assessment publications.
