Audio Introduction

Submissions are accepted from October 26—November 6, 2009.
For this contest you will create a sound effect using foley techniques that goes with a short scene or situation. Email a description of how you made it along with the mp3.
- Please be aware that the contest is open to students of all ages and may be viewed by anyone. ISTE will not post any material that it deems inappropriate or sensitive including material containing drugs, alcohol or violence.
- The final mp3 should be around 15 seconds.
- In your email, you need to give a short descripton (fewer than 20 words) of how you made your sound effect..
- You can create an existing Foley idea or use one below
- The short scene or sitation cannot be from copyrighted material
For example:
- The sound of the prison door closing was done by closing a metal filing cabinet and then adding echo
- The sound of a galloping horse was done by clacking two coconut shells together and then changing the pitch
- The sound of plucking a beard was done by tearing a small piece of paper and the scene is from King Lear

Some Foley Suggestions (from Student-Powered Podcasting):
- Marching army: boots on hard surface (repeated and looped)
- Shovels: spoons in cups of sand or pebbles (change the pitch or speed)
- Airplane engine: fan starting and running
- Helicopter: opening and closing an umbrella very fast
- Bones breaking: cracking celery or carrots
- Walking in snow: patting corn starch
- Dinosaur, monster, or large animal eating: chewing watermelon or apple
- Boiling water: blowing bubbles in water with straw

Teachers:
Submit your mp3 audio file via e-mail to Megan at mdolman@iste.org. In the e-mail, please include a title for your story and your name as you wish it to be posted online.
Students:

Foley Art Contest Prizes
After all submissions are reviewed, ISTE will announce prizes for the following categories:
1. Best animal-related sound
2. Best spooky sound
3. Best use of a kitchen utensil
4. Sound effect most likely to be used in a comedy
5. Participants' Choice—You vote!
Teacher Prizes
On November 13, 2009, a winner will be selected for each of five prize categories. The winners will each receive an ISTE book of their choice. The prize value is up to $44.95.
Student Prizes
On November 13, 2009, a winner will be selected for each of five prize categories. The winners will each receive a $10 iTunes gift card. The prize value is $10.00.
