Improvement of an Information System’s Course Through the Application of MobileLearning Technology

Featured Speakers: Alejandro Orero, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid

The course redesign is intended to improve the students' knowledge on enterprise information systems and soft skills (teamworking, presentations, reporting) by means of the resolution of real cases in a professional way. We combine the use of an m-learning platform (m-ARFO), wireless Internet access that is available throughout the campus and the HP Mobile Technology. HP Tablet PCs are the key devices to access to the different activities during the course. These are some of the results of the project: instructors understand how to use technology to transform instruction and enrich learning; instructors increase the repertoire of pedagogical strategies (structure of case solving sessions, new testing possibilities, new ways of team working); a greater percentage of students actively attend and participate in class activities; the level of satisfaction of the students with the course increases compared with previous, non Tablet PC enhanced versions of the same course; students do more and more interesting participations in the on-line discussion forums; students show a better understanding of the basic and main concepts of the course through the pre-essential tests; students solutions to the cases reflect more work, more professionalism and a better application of the concepts reviewed in the classes; students perform better on course assessments.
