ISTE Leadership Symposia

[ISTE Leadership Symposium]

ISTE Leadership Symposium 2002

In its ninth year, the ISTE Leadership Symposium convening in San Antonio pre-NECC 2002, will focus on the role of educational leaders in helping students achieve twenty-first century skills, specifically digital literacy skills. The day will focus on information and technology literacy, two critical and complementary goals that cross disciplines. 150 representatives from different stakeholder groups: state and district administrators, teacher educators, K–12 teachers, library media specialists, students, business and government will provide input on how we can reach these goals. A new collaborative program centered on Digital Literacy and Digital Divide issues will assemble attendees from the Minority Leadership Symposium and the Leadership Symposium in small group discussions and panel presentations Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as part of the overall experience.

By the end of the Symposium, educational leaders will understand:

  • How information literacy standards and technology standards work together
  • What library media specialists need to know—what skills they need to have to mesh information literacy and technology standards
  • How district and state administrators can support the technology rich library media programs and WHY
  • How being information literate and technology literate helps minorities cross the Digital Divide

For further reference, print publications on these topics will follow.
