Now in its 14th year, the ISTE Leadership Symposium was held in conjunction with NECC 2007, at the Omni Hotel in Atlanta, GA. The Symposium is designed to provide learning and networking opportunities for education leaders while together we create new resources to advance the field of educational technology.
Our focus for the past four years has been developing strategies, skills, and tools to support making a compelling case for the vital role of technology in teaching, learning, and school administration. You can use the navigation links on the left hand side to explore the outcomes of those events.
This year our focus took us toward developing a deeper understanding of emerging digital tools and a changing emphasis on skills needed to be successful in today’s digital world. Using these as context, we explored the implications for teaching and learning.
David Warlick, The Landmark Project, opened the program with An Educator’s Perspective on Today’s Read/Write World and Jennifer Ragan-Fore, ISTE General Membership Program Director, discussed Social Networks and Participatory Media: Growing Virtual Member Communities. His presentation guided the audience towards a shared understanding of web 2.0 tools and how they create new ease and opportunities for online collaboration and multimedia publishing.
Lynn Nolan, ISTE Senior Director, Education Leadership gave an overview of ISTE’s newly refreshed standards, Considering the Implications for Learning, which was followed by small-group discussion around how these standards could be implemented in technology-supported learning environments.
In Considering the Implications for Leaders, Lynne Schrum, Professor, Elementary & Secondary Education Coordinator George Mason University, explored the implications of these trends for each of us as we reflect on our roles as leaders who support powerful uses of technology in the hands of students.
We wish to thank our friends and colleagues at SETDA for their partnership in bringing the Leadership Symposium to NECC 2007.
We gratefully acknowledge our sponsor, Pearson Education, who continues to support innovation, collaboration, and dialogues on improving education with technology.
