The Individuals with Disabilities in Education Improvement Act requires that the assistive technology needs of every student receiving Special Education services be considered. This necessitates that someone who is familiar with assistive technology tools and strategies be available for discussion. How does a school district begin to develop an assistive technology team?

The content of this webinar will discuss the trials and triumphs of a thriving AT Team. The team has grown in ten years from part-time volunteers, to the current staff comprised of ten full-time positions with diverse professional backgrounds, including special education, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, and instructional technology. Use of innovative and positive solutions will address issues facing every school district in the country.

Learn how a team can evolve from providing services on a reactive basis to becoming PROACTIVE by developing an approach that meets the needs of every learner (not just those receiving special education services) while fostering relationships between special and general educators. New and innovative ways to raise awareness for Assistive Technology by promoting creative learning environments will be discussed. A variety of inventive and successful resources and strategies for providing AT services, training, and awareness will be shared.
