How can leaders lead when there's so much to keep up with? How can we start embedding tools that cover content, collaboration, communication, etc.? How do we narrow down the field and focus on the biggest impact? Join us for a tour of 5 Web 2.0 applications that 21st century leaders can use to move their teams forward right now. We'll explore a small range of tools that accomplish several things allowing leaders to:
- Lead a content-focused, classroom-based web 2 tool that teachers can immediately use in their classrooms - Animoto!
- Master a tool for your own productivity purposes by modeling its use for students in the classroom. Podcasting!
- Use Web 2.0 for one of its best purposes - collaboration. Get your school/organization signed up for Google Apps.
- Bring the outside world to the classroom via Skype. New features make it more collaborative than ever.
- Publish. Students are publishing outside school daily. Why not lead that in school, and wrap some educational context around it? We'll explore a few publishing tools, and focus on the key issues involved in publishing in a Web 2.0 world.
Teachers are doing great things. Intertwining Web 2.0 tools in a way that makes sense – keeping the great things great, and enriching the areas that need help – is an effective way to demonstrated your leadership 2.0 skills!

About the Presenter

Chris O’Neal is a former elementary and middle school teacher originally teaching in the Calcasieu (pronounced Cal ca shoo) Parish School System in Louisiana, where he received numerous Teacher of the Year honors. After leaving the classroom, Chris went on to work in the Curriculum and Instruction office for the school district. There he worked with teachers in high-risk schools to enhance classroom practice through the use of new teaching strategies and tools. He also developed content to support high-risk classrooms, and provided professional development to teachers and administrators in technology and school improvement.
He went on to work at the State Department of Education in Louisiana, focusing on grant management, policy and planning issues, district support, legislative work, and eventually becoming the state director of technology. His work with the Governor’s Office and the Louisiana Legislature earned him status as an honorary State Senator. He has also been featured as a "Shaper of Our Future" in Converge Magazine, and received the "Making it Happen" award for leaders in the field of education. He is a featured speaker each year at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC). He now teaches classes at the University of Virginia in both traditional and online format. Chris serves as a faculty associate for the George Lucas Educational Foundation; provides leadership professional development, content development, and consulting for ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education); serves as a leadership facilitator for SETDA (the U.S. State Educational Technology Directors Association), and conducts educational leadership institutes, workshops, and evaluations for organizations around the world.
