Information Systems: An
Exploration
of the Factors Influencing Effective Use
Scott Barrett
Conroe Independent School District
Abstract
This qualitative study examines what users expect
or perceive
about a computerized student management
information system
(SMIS) and how these perceptions influence
effective use.
The research was conducted in a suburban southeast
Texas
school district with more than 30,000 students
that had
implemented an SMIS in the last four years. The
study of
this SMIS investigated the relationships between
design,
use, and effects in developing a model for
understanding
strategies for effective implementation and use.
The article
concludes with a discussion of the development and
implications
of the model.
