Arlene Borthwick — Teacher Education Representative

Arlene Borthwick is Associate Dean of the National College of Education at National-Louis University (Chicago) where she previously served as Professor of Technology in Education and Department Chair of Integrated Studies in Teaching, Technology, and Inquiry. Following public school teaching (grades 5-6), she began her career in higher education by coordinating technology-related continuing education activities for K12 teachers at Kent State University and The University of Tulsa. She is a Past President of ISTE’s Special Interest Group for Teacher Educators (SIGTE) and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Computing in Teacher Education (JCTE). She is a member of the NCATE Board of Examiners and has served as a SPA reviewer and Recognition Report Auditor for ISTE. She is co-editor for i.e.: inquiry in education, the online journal of the Center for Practitioner Research at National Louis and has served as the Program Chair for AERA’s Action Research SIG. Her research activities include participation as an AT&T Fellow at the Research Center for Educational Technology at Kent State University (2005-2006), where she worked with elementary teachers and students on multimedia authoring. Additional areas of research include design of online instruction, use of handheld computers for assessment, and the process of school-university collaboration for school improvement.
