Helen Padgett, PhD — Past President

Helen Padgett, PhD, is the director of professional development for Technology Based Learning and Research, an independent research entity at Arizona State University (ASU). As ISTE president, she served as a member of the Finance, Nominations and Appointments, and Public Policy and Advocacy committees. She continues to work on public policy and advocacy issues through the Ed Tech Action Network (ETAN, www.edtechactionnetwork.org) which provides a forum for educators to engage in the political process and to project a unified voice in support of improving teaching and learning through the systemic use of technology. She also serves on the board of her local affiliate, Arizona Technology in Education Alliance (AzTEA).
Helen's involvement with ISTE includes serving as program chair for NECC '91 in Phoenix, Arizona, USA; participating as a member of the writing team for the ISTE publication "NETS•T Resources for Assessment;" presenting at NECC; and serving as the ISTE liaison for AzTEA. As project manager for two ASU Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) grants, Helen facilitated the development of a National Educational Technology Standards Digital Video Library (NETSDVL) and the development and implementation of the Integration of Technology Observation Instrument (ITOI).
During Helen's career as a classroom teacher, administrator, university faculty member, and professional development trainer, she developed a passion for integrating technology into the curriculum to improve student learning and achievement. She has designed and conducted professional development for teachers, administrators, parents, university faculty members, and business leaders. She has extensive knowledge of standards-based technology integration and the implementation of ISTE's digital age standards, the NETS for students, teachers, and administrators. Helen's areas of research include e-learning environments, technology integration, and emerging technologies. Helen provides professional development support to Adaptive Curriculum, which is based at ASU SkySong Technology Innovation Center.
