Kecia Campbell-Ray — At-Large Representative
Dr. Kecia Campbell-Ray began her career as a middle school science teacher in DeKalb County, Georgia, USA, in 1988. She taught in one of the first 21st century classrooms in the state of Tennessee, USA, and participated in the state's first distance learning network. Her passion for technology, combined with her desire to increase student engagement, led her to conduct research in assessing technology literacy as an assistant professor at Middle Tennessee State University. In 1998, her research established a basic computer literacy exam. She joined the design team of the First Center for the Visual Arts and designed technology-rich learning spaces throughout the center. In 2000, she became the director of technology research in the Office of Science Outreach at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Kecia served as a member of the North American Council for Online Learning Research Committee, as a journal referee for the American Education Research Association (AERA), and as a member of the Foster Care Review Board of Davidson County. She participated in the development of national standards for engineering and technology as well as two national education technology plans. She has been a member of ISTE for 20 years and is currently serving as president of the Special Interest Group for Online Learning (SIGOL). She is an appointed board member on the Community Education Commission of Davidson County and serves as the public board member on the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education, an international accrediting council for Montessori teacher education programs.
She has conducted research in the area of technology integration across the United States, Canada, and South Africa. She consulted school systems, universities, and museums in designing learning networks and is an industry-recognized grant writer. She is also the author of three books and several papers focused on designing instruction with technology and presents her work both nationally and internationally.
Kecia is on the graduate faculty of the College of Teaching and Learning at University of Maryland University College and Bethel University and serves Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools as the executive director of learning technologies. She oversees planning and administration of the district's virtual school, blending learning, online professional development, and instructional technology integration. She resides in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, with her husband, Dr. Clark Ray, and their son Wes.
