JCT Welcome to the Journal for Computing Teachers

Welcome to the Journal for Computing Teachers (formerly known as the Journal for Computer Science Educators or JCSE).

What is the Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT)?

The Journal for Computing Teachers (JCT) is a production of ISTE's Special Interest Group for Computing Teachers (SIGCT). JCT supports and enhances the mission of SIGCT, which includes teaching about computing in grades K–12. The full mission statement appears on the SIGCT homepage. Toward that end, we provide information to our membership and others interested in computing through JCT.

Notes from the Editor

Veronica McGowan, Editor

Welcome to the seventh online issue of the Journal for Computing Teachers, a publication of ISTE’s Special Interest Group for Computing Teachers (SIGCT). SIGCT advances the practice of teaching computing and computer science in PK−12 education to meet needs for all students as well as those wishing to study some aspect of the discipline in more depth.

In this issue, we offer three double-blind, peer-reviewed papers covering an array of topics of interest to teachers invested in the employment of technology in their classrooms. The article "Impact of Alice on the Attitudes of High School Students Toward Computing" by authors Eileen M. Peluso and Gene Sprechini explores how the popular 3D computer programming environment Alice, originally developed by Randy Pausch’s team at Carnegie Mellon, impacts attitudinal changes of high school students toward computer programming. "Using Moodle as an Effective Learning Management System within a School Context" by Bruce Allen Knight, John Dekkers, and Greg Wilson examines how one public high school in Australia implemented Moodle learning management system tools to more effectively deploy course activities. Finally, I offer a theoretical article to postsecondary readers, "Adapting Adoption-Based Design to Develop an Educational Technology Course," which proposes the adaption of a curricular model known as the Adoption-Based Design model (Chan, Yang, & Chang, 2004) into a framework that weighs stakeholder needs in the inclusion of new curricular content for an educational technology course in a teacher preparation program.
