A new, detailed Frequently Asked Questions will be added soon. It will answer your questions about what an ISTE Affiliate is, how an organization can become an ISTE Affiliate, and how affiliates can make the most of their membership benefits and opportunitiies.
Listed below are some suggestions for existing affiliates on how to manage your membership and develop your connections with ISTE and other affiliates.
1. Designate one person as your primary contact and make sure we have the current contact information for that person. This person will be your “Affiliate Rep” and will be the first one we turn to with opportunities and questions that may benefit your organization. The Affiliate Rep is also the one who receives all ISTE publications via postal mail and email on behalf of your organization. If the person in this role changes, please send us the contact information of the new person as soon as possible, and inform the new rep of the resources and responsibilities of this role.
2. Join and actively participate in our Affiliate Wiki. We use this tool for information sharing and collaboration. In it you'll find a directory of all Affiliate representatives, the Affiliate conferences and events calendar, and an explanation of benefits and how to use them. Affiliate Wiki address: http://affiliates.iste.wikispaces.net
3. Please pay attention to the Affiliate listserve! This is our primary method of communication from ISTE staff to Affiliate leaders, as well as Affiliate leaders with each other. Please offer your insights or ask questions as often as you’d like to the discussions.
a. Note: All Affiliate reps are automatically added to the listserve.
b. Please designate at least two other leaders of your organization to be included as well.
Suggestions are: Executive director, conference chair, advocacy chair, communication
chair/journal editor, president, president elect, administrative assistants.
c. Please send names, roles, and email addresses to slarson@iste.org.
4. Develop your own personal network of Affiliate leaders. We have found that most are quite generous with their expertise and very willing to help each other succeed.
5. Become familiar with all the benefits of the Affiliate program (link to benefits page) and incorporate them into your organization as much as possible.
6. Keep us informed about what your Affiliate is up to. Let us know of your accomplishments, special opportunities, and shining stars. Be sure we receive your newsletters, journals, member announcements, and add slarson@iste.org to your member mailing lists.
Ask questions and share suggestions for how the Affiliate program can be even more successful.
