ISTE Research & Evaluation

ISTE's Research and Evaluation (R&E) department helps educators identify effective uses of technology and put them into practice to improve teaching and learning.

Services that R&E provides include:

Program Evaluation
ISTE evaluations emphasize program improvement. Working with teachers, administrators, and project managers, ISTE strives to conduct studies that lead directly to better program decisions and improved results. ISTE employs a variety of methodologies, including:

  • classroom observations
  • surveys & interviews
  • portfolio analysis
  • data mining
  • controlled comparisons

ISTE has served as evaluator on numerous federal, state, local, and private grants and initiatives.

Grant Proposal Development
Evaluation is a major component of most modern grant competitions. ISTE works closely with applicants to develop and present program objectives, outcomes, and evaluation approaches. Careful alignment of objectives and methods produces evaluation plans that meet the goals of grantees and funding agencies and that can be carried out efficiently and within budget.

Needs Assessment
School districts poised on the edge of major decisions can call on ISTE's expertise to help focus their resources, improve constituent satisfaction, and avoid costly mistakes. ISTE can help a district assess:

  • where schools stand in relation to national standards
  • district strengths and weaknesses
  • stakeholder priorities
  • costs and benefits of different options

Research Analysis
ISTE provides analysis and interpretation to inform educational policy, practice, and product development. ISTE analyses consider not only the quality of research but also how educators can use research to make decisions. Key studies become part of the database of the Center for Applied Research in Educational Technology (http://caret.iste.org).
