SIG News:  October 2008

Welcome to SIG News, the quarterly newsletter for ISTE's Special Interest Group Program.

And a very special welcome to the six new Topic-Level Special Interest Groups approved this month by the ISTE Board.  The new SIGs are: Arts Educators, Digital Storytelling, Games and Simulations, Independent Schools, Music and Technology, and Technology in Afterschool Programs.  Please read on to learn more about these exciting new Special Interest Groups.

NECC 2008 in San Antonio has come and gone, and we hope many of you were able to attend this year's amazing conference. For those of you unable to make the event, we have included a recap of some of the many SIG activities held there, as well as information about registration for next year's conference in Washington DC -- a 30th anniversary celebration of ISTE and NECC, the ISTE Conference.

This issue also features an article by Jennifer Ragan-Fore, ISTE General Membership Director, on the educational uses of video streaming because, as traveling to NECC might not be an option for everyone, video streaming offers "the next best thing to being there."

The SIG Program has some great opportunities planned for you this fall, including a new ISTE Ning. We hope you'll take advantage of this network. Visit the Ning and the SIGs' wikis for up-to-date information on SIG-related events and activities.

Thanks for reading.
