WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 12, 2014 – Finding tools and apps for the classroom is easy, but ensuring educators understand how to integrate them effectively into a lesson is another story. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) today unveiled the 2nd edition of its popular book, Web 2.0: How-To for Educators, a guide that expertly leads teachers through classroom and professional applications designed to improve student and teacher learning. From Google tools and virtual environments to apps such as SoundCloud, this revised and expanded edition explores the very best Web 2.0 has to offer for education.

Co-authored by Gwen Solomon and Lynne Schrum, Web 2.0: How-To for Educators offers a comprehensive list of digital learning tools proven to make a difference. With practical examples from educators around the world, the book includes a wealth of ideas for integrating Web 2.0 technology into instruction. Each tool is examined through these critical questions:

  • What is it?
  • Why is it useful?
  • When should you use it?
  • Who is using it?
  • How can it be used effectively?
  • Where can you find additional resources?

Both authors have deep expertise in evaluating technology tools and successfully using them with students. Solomon has been the director of the websites TechLearning.com, Digital Learning Environments, 21st Century Connections and the Well Connected Educator. Previously, she was a senior analyst with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology. Schrum is the dean of the College of Education and Human Services, West Virginia University. She has authored ten books, including Considerations on Technology and Teachers, and numerous articles on appropriate use of information technology and preparation of leaders for digital age schools.
