Thanks for your note, Heidi. Understanding the effect of the net & mobile phones on the youth is of enormous importance. However, it's important to make a quick clarification: as it turns out, the teen suicide rate is significantly _less_ than it was, for example, from 1987 - 1995, before the net. I like hearing about Eagleman's optimism and reframing of issues using labeled as problematic really being adaptive and healthy... But I also wonder what his thoughts are on the researching showing an uptick in teen suicide that very closely corresponds with the timeframe in which mobile phones and smart devices became ubuiquitous among youth. I too am a believer in the power of tech and the importance of creativity and innovation, but I also think we have to take a realistic look at the dangers too, and the need for balance...
