12 1:1 tips for teachers and administrators

We wanted to know: What do teachers and administrators need to know when implementing a BYOD or 1:1 program? So we asked the experts: educators who've been there! All twelve tips were sourced from Verizon Mobile Learning Academy facilitators and participants.

The Verizon Mobile Learning Academy (VMLA) is a free, 10-week virtual professional development experience designed to help teams, schools or districts implement or improve their mobile learning strategy.

Delivered by ISTE, in partnership with The Verizon Foundation, VMLA supports various approaches to mobile learning such as 1:1 and BYOD.

Proven, practical and grounded in the ISTE Standards, VMLA prepares teams to supercharge mobile initiatives by discovering how to design creative learning experiences, identify effective management strategies, gauge student readiness, and teach safe online practices.

Participants benefit from:
— Connection to other teams and VMLA alumni in a private Google Plus community.
— Access to experienced ISTE Faculty and instructional coaches who will facilitate the online course.
— 2.5 Continuing Education Units from Johns Hopkins University.
— Earning a digital badge to showcase their skills.

"I can't recommend this program enough as we had a great experience. Do it. Sign up! It'll put your district on the right track, no matter where you are in the transformation process. We were a year into a 1 to 1 rollout, and felt like we were missing structure. This program provided that structure, and we are happy to say that our program is now Future Ready!"

— Cory Klinge, Tech Coach, River Falls School District (WI)
“It was very valuable to bring a group of staff members within my building together to pursue these things together. We were a diverse group, so we have little opportunity to work together otherwise.”

— Lisa Austin, Principal, Meridian Middle School (ID)
“The most valuable thing about this course was to have a great conversation with other professionals. We were able to share ideas and implementation of technology in our classrooms. If it was not for this class I would not have met with my colleagues to have this discussion.”

— Kelli Annesi, Teacher, Haldane Central School District (NY)
