The ISTE draft standards are ready for your review!
Throughout 2018, ISTE will collaborate with the education community to update the ISTE Standards for Computer Science Educators. This process is an opportunity for thought leaders in computer science (CS) education and educators at all levels to help ISTE develop the next generation of computing education standards and define a new framework for problem-solving in K-12.
This refresh comes as we recognize that if CS must be an integral part of students’ educational experience, it must also be a critical component of educator practice. The new standards will establish a vision for the knowledge, skills and dispositions educators need to effectively teach CS to all students and will guide professional learning for all educators.
Throughout the process, we’ll share ways you can add your voice to the standards, including participating in refresh events, surveys and digital storytelling efforts. We’ll be seeking answers to questions like: What competencies do educators need to integrate CS and computational thinking across educational settings? What’s the mindset of an educator who provides equitable CS opportunities to all students?
- February - April 2018 – Open feedback period. What should the new ISTE Standards for Computer Science Educators include?
- July 30, 2018 – Release drafts of the refreshed Computer Science Educators Standards and gather further feedback.
- Fall 2018 – Release of the new ISTE Standards for Computer Science Educators.
Two important groups supporting this process are the Technical Working Group (TWG) and the Stakeholder Advisory Council. The Technical Working group is, a team of education thought-leaders who provide critical perspectives and meaningful input for updating the standards, including analyzing data, identifying leadership trends, and drafting the first framework. The Stakeholder Advisory Council is a team of experts from across a diverse fields and stakeholder groups who will provide thought leadership to the TWG and ISTE team throughout the process.
